You don’t need toxic chemicals to get a clean oven!
While ‘green conscious’ shopping has been on the rise
, we still hear horror stories of the accidents that can happen
when you have toxic cleaning chemicals in your kitchen. Why take a gamble on your family’s safety, when you can get exactly the same results with less dangerous products?
Let’s do away with our harmful products and make 2016 the year you have an eco-friendly kitchen!
Step 1 – Avoiding Toxic Oven Cleaning Products
This is very important, don’t let the hundreds of products we see on our supermarket shelves fool you. Always read the label, and be especially wary of sodium hydroxide as it can burn your skin! A typical collection of home cleaning products contains 8,000 chemicals and the reality is, that we simply don’t know the effects that these chemicals have when they come into contact with the skin. One thing is pretty much certain — someone who isn’t exposed to these 8,000 chemicals is at less risk than someone who is exposed to these 8,000 chemicals.
Step 2 – The Dangers of self-cleaning Ovens
If you have a self-cleaning oven, and think you don’t need to worry about cleaning products, think again. self-cleaning ovens reach up to 500 degrees, any contact with temperatures this high is incredibly dangerous. As professional oven cleaners, we’d always suggest doing it by hand, or at the very least making sure no one else is in the house while you do it.
Step 3 – Buying Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products
This really is so simple, a quick internet search comes up with hundreds of products that are ‘people and planet friendly’. Some of these you can buy in the larger stores of all the big brand supermarkets, but they are also sold online and often at a discounted rate!
The key here is to do a little research, take a note of the names and what the packaging looks like, so you know exactly which product to buy. Green cleaners can get the very same result as their toxic counterparts, all it takes is a little bit more elbow grease.
Step 4 – Cleaning Your Oven
Now that you have your eco-friendly cleaning products you can set about giving your cooker a good service. Take out the oven racks, soak them in hot water and some of your new oven cleaner.
Next (warming up the oven first will help you here, but don’t let it get too hot!), we want to spray the inside of the oven with the cleaning solution. Then with a strong scourer and some hot soapy water, begin to clean the oven, scrubbing in a circular motion.
Once the racks have soaked, take a metal scourer, some more hot soapy water, and your eco-friendly cleaning spray. Spray the racks again, then wrap the scourer around each bar and scrub up and down until clean.
Step 5 – Maintaining an Eco-Friendly Kitchen
Your kitchen is now considerably safer for your family, and just as clean! The next step is to invest in making the whole kitchen eco-friendly. From washing up liquid to fabric softener, you can get toxic-free replacements for all your old, potentially harmful cleaning products.
Now there’s no need to worry about your loved ones inhaling nasty fumes. It’s so easy to achieve a professional oven cleaning finish without toxic chemicals, there’s really no reason why you wouldn’t follow these steps to making your kitchen eco-friendly in 2016.
